About Me
Artist Statement:
Emma Digerud-White
Visual Artist. Living and working in Cornwall, United Kingdom.
I live in search of moments of intense emotion within myself, and between others. I see and feel the energy these moments create how they interact, move and overspill outside of our bodies, and that is what I paint.
Love, devotion, desolation, clarity, confusion and confrontation are all themes I visit within my work. They may appear as a parent and child, blissfully sleeping or a questioning mother, falling upside down, or a powerful figure with a direct gaze, speaking with her eyes. My works are alive and fight to be seen.
My works are composed with multiple layers of paint, starting with loose big brush strokes or smeared with paint, directly from my hands. I gradually add depth, layer by layer with each one becoming tighter and more defined as they build.
My colours are selected quickly and intuitively, I seem to know them before I pick up the brush. I crave, bold, bright and block colour, and need them to feel alive. Without them I am numb, and life is dull.
I use personal photography, family life, psychotherapy and neurobiology as my inspiration sources. Through my work I ask questions about myself, society, motherhood and human behaviour and am forever asking…
